Many of the field service tunics that were actually worn in fighting and at the front did not have award loops. During fighting the awards were often removed. Also note he is not wearing and EKII ribbon which also is common to see with front tunics. This is certainly a combat worn t tunic showing wear from "Y" straps and heavy use as well as having the sewing of a crude dark green collar and the older style tabs probably right over the factory tabs and collar. I suspect it may be a photo made at the unit level for a Soldbuch or another record.
