I had heard in the past that Portuguese Volunteers had served in the German Army was there any truth to this myth ? I had seen a few photos of Portuguese males in German Wehrmacht uniforms.I also think maybe my father served with them he seems to know all the German army terms can't ask him questions now he passed away in 1980.Any Info will be deeply appreciated or photos.

It's estimated that about 150 of them served in the Spanish Blue Division.
The majority of these Wehrmacht volunteers it appears were already fighting in the Spanish civil war under Franco...

Here some of them. You can click on the photo of each soldier to get the man's info...

            Translated from Portuguese text.

Ladies and Gentlemen I had this text provided by Nick G Translated I hope it's up to snuff.

The Portuguese who fought in Hitler's army
Despite our country's neutral status during World War II, many compatriots fought in the greatest of all conflicts. Virtually unknown, these 150 Portuguese participated in the German invasion of the USSR integrated the ranks of the Blue Division, regimented in Spain and integrated in the huge machine of Hitler's war

From 6:30 am that day February 10, 1943 that the Soviet artillery kept achieve Krasnyj-Bor.

The city was burning, and around, the blanket of snow had become a quagmire covered with debris and corpses. After two hours of bombardment began an overwhelming assault and violent clashes of battle were heard in the Feldersatz Bataillon 250 command post inside the bunker, the commander followed by field radio the events unfolding on line front where his men desperately fighting against successive waves of Soviet tanks and infantry.

There was only his 1st Company to counterattack and try to defend Leningrad-Moscow highway. Quickly he grabbed his gun and ordered his men to get ready.

As you straighten out over the slopes, the soldiers could observe from afar the hell that awaited them. Among them stood out a veteran sergeant with the body full of scars, reminders of the many battles he had fought already.

On his chest, a German Iron Cross proved to be a military decorated for bravery, and is also a former Legionnaire with two years of fighting in the Spanish Civil War, which amounted to one and a half of continuous struggle in Russia. Subira a soldier's wrist to leader of an infantry squad. However, this sergeant was no ordinary soldier in the Wehrmacht: spoke Portuguese, was born in Porto and was called Vicente Domingues Monteiro. It was one of a hundred and a half of Portuguese who served in Blue Division, a unit of Spanish volunteers who fought in the siege bleak in human history: Leningrad.

The story of these men had begun two years earlier, in the hot summer of 1941.

Might want to move the to the research section and you might get more responses. This section mainly concerns tunics and insignia.
