I got a Wh officer greatcoat with a name tag still intact. As I read it says Ltn. W. d. R. Baumbart? I know stands for Leutnant der Reserve, but what does the "W" mean?

Looks like Herr Leutnant der Reserve and then the name to me - what is the Waffenfarbe color on the overcoat? The way that the tailor spreads out his letters makes it tougher...

Thanks a lot, it makes sense. Sorrily the boards are missing, it just came out from a home clearance, but there was nothing more military related in the house. I would like to restore the boards, but I do not really know which Waffenfarbe I should choose.

On the other hand coat does not show any wear, I don't think it was ever worn.

The label certainly looks minty - I asked about the boards because I wondered if it could have been "Herr Wachtmeister der Reserve". Member Naxos is the reigning expert on name deciphering.

If that is in fact a "W" then it is Leutnant des Waffenwessens der Reserve. With the "W" he would have been an Ordnance Officer wearing crossed canons on his orange-red boards. Easy to restore.

Also, from the angle of the pic it looks like Baumbach to me.
