It probably would clean up a little bit and can be made to look better. It would be a lot of work.

Johnny, are you sure about your assessment of this jacket? I would agree that wool looks good and that private purchase items, such as this would be non standard, but the the button holes and the lining just dont sit right with me. I would still advise caution on this one.

I have several tunics like it that have the same button holes. The button hole idea really only holds with issue and factory produced items. I think it is fine. To make a fake like that with all of the hand stitching would cost much more than what this could be sold for as a stripped dirty jacket etc.
