    DAK tunic collar?

    Hi guys
I hit the tunic. It looks like the original DAK. The eagle was expressly deleted. What worries me, however collar tunic. Is this postwar modification?

Hard to tell if the top panel of the collar was a period repair/modification or if it was done post war? I dont think this jacket was used post war for civilian use and the collars of these tropical tunics did tend to wear out so I think it maybe a period application? Have you checked the thread to see if it is synthetic? Also, is there any trace of collar tabs?

Could well be its the original tunic collar with a cloth cover stitched to the outside of the collar???

I would pick the stitching away from the collar and see what is underneath

As Steve mentioned "checked the thread to see if it is synthetic"

Certainly has had a lot of wear, great looking worn tunic

        hello
        I checked under the collar.
Unfortunately, the original collar was cut off.
Current sewn later. Outside, no trace of the callar tabs.

          POW repaired tunic ?

Personally I would not un-pick the stitching on anything and risk ruining an original period modified item, typical of what POW wore at the time.

Agree, likely a POW jacket repaired. Would not touch it at all, leave it as is. With heavy use these tunics tend to really fall apart at the collar as Steve mentions. Great to see the honest fading & wear to a very nice tunic.
