Is rayon basketweave piping OK on M38 shoulderboards?

    Hi All,

Apologies if this is a dumb question, and everybody but me knows the answer, but is it OK to see rayon basketweave piping on M38 (dark green) shoulderboards? This is an example, but I have seen quite a few over the past few years.

      basket weave

However the examples you show are not what is called "basket weave" piping. It is found very often on private purchase shoulder straps.

        M-36 Schulterklappen

Wool piping is usually found on M-36 straps; but, like anything else having to do shoulder boards and straps, it is not an absolute. I have found many Gebirgsjaeger M-36 shoulder straps that use rayon piping.

This example belonged a farrier at the GJ Schule.

I think he means "rayon" in general. These 3 pairs of rayon piped straps are all factory produced,IMO

Rayon piping use starts in 38 IMO and the nice GJ boards are perfect examples of it !
You can also see it in regulation EM Schirmmütze produced before 39,with the typical orange lining and "Geprüft" ( approved ) stamping under the leather ?

They used rayon earlier then 1938 on private purchase boards also.

                Gentlemen,

Many thanks for your help! I thought the style of piping on the boards I posted was 'basket weave', but my question should really have been about rayon piping in general. It's really useful to know that rayon piping is fine on original dark green, round-end boards.

                Thanks again,

                Mark
