M35 with 2nd pattern Breast Eagle

I've posted this M35 tunic before and it received high praise, so I'm not really worried about it; but after another prewar tunic (an M34) was posted the other day it got me to thinking about whether or not the second pattern breast eagle would be appropriate for this M35.

We know that the M35 was first introduced September of 1935 and 15 months later in December of 1936 the full lining was introduced to help lengthen the durability and life of the tunic giving way to the M36.

The second pattern eagle was introduced June 19, 1937
(7 months after the M35 was "phased out")

Would it be appropriate to find a second pattern eagle on this tunic??

    Other things to consider:
    • The tunic has been modified at some point during its use
    • It has the roman numeral III stamped inside denoting its original use as a ceremonial service dress tunic
    • It has Lehr shoulder boards

None of this may play into the breast eagle issue, but it's worth noting.

    Thanks!

      Hello,

It looks like a typical update through its service time. The round end boards didn't come out till 1938 did they?

          Hello,

To be period correct for it to be as issued you would want a first pattern Heer enlisted breast eagle and pointed feldbluse boards.

Given the modified pockets, I'm not concerned about it not being "as issued"; but yes you are correct. Mostly I just wantied to throw a question out for the community for conversation and learning sake.

Also this guy has a button closure on the field dressing pocket. These buttons weren't introduced until August of 1936.

So seems like this guy really got cleaned up and upgraded before being sent back out into the field.

Great looking tunic and most likely the soldiers walking out dress tunic. Started life as an early piece and transitioned as the insignia changed and the wears tastes became apparent.

Definitely a great looking tunic that has evolved with uniform changes through the years. A very fine piece.
