    panzergrenadier Oberstleutnant tunic for review

Here is original Oberstleutnant tunic for review. Is fresh from the box so it's a little wrinkled. It came from Wroclaw in Poland before the war this city was named Breslau in Germany.

I love that tunic, wouldn't mind adding it to my collection if you tire of it. He should be listed in the books as well, congrats. Matt

I cannot read the first letters, I thought it may be Heinrici but did not find any good matches. He probably was older and may have been "E" or d.R.

The tunic is a converted waffenrock. Note the seam around the waist.

It's very well done too as the pockets and cuffs closely match the base material. I'd be very pleased if it were residing in my humble collection.

Mike is correct - this is a waffenrock that has been very neatly converted to represent an old style service tunic.

If you can post another image of the tag without the flash on the first part of the name we can make sure that is an "H" or see what it is.

In my opinion this is custom tailor made old style tunic not converted waffenrock. The pocket material is the same as in the tunic, buttons are all the same model Assman and all stich with the same thread, inside is no belts, ther is no waffenfarbe strip along the buttons line, collar have no waffenfarbe strip oslo, under the collar is no sign of re stitch collar tabs which are different in waffenrock, and you fellows are telling me that is converted only because has a seam around the waist. For me is the custom made tailor tunic rather than converted waffenrock.

I have three custom-made " Reichswehr-style" tunics and none has a waist seam. The seam is indicative of a waffenrock. You must appreciate that tailors were/are very skilled artisans and adding or removing pockets, piping, collars, buttons etc is routine practice for them.

I have a general's old-style tunic that started life in 1932 as an infantry colonel and you only know that because of its dated name tag. Upon his promotion in November 1937, a tailor upgraded it with general's tabs, piping, boards etc.

Being a converted waffenrock isn't some kind of criticism. It's a lovely jacket and I'd own it any day.

That is what I thought. I will look some other places. The only matches to the date, rank, and name were (active) Army Artillery officers.

Here's a converted waffenrock I owned ages ago. Note the virtually perfectly matched pockets and cuffs, added pointed collar, piping removed along the front.
