Field Chaplain Tunic

Got this Field Chaplain Tunic a couple of weeks ago.


The Tunic itself has several moth damages but it is no big deal, just very small holes here and there. The only bigger damage is on frontside, but you can't see it, when buttons are closed.
Colour is purple, no shoulderboards on it, as it were usual for chaplains.
The breast eagle and the collar tabs are made of silver i think, they are massive - officers quality! on the left upper pocket a wound badge in black from WW1.


The only stamp i could find inside the Tunic is "222".
On both sleeves purple cloth was added, maybe it was done for an easier identifying?

Tunic color, pockets, and cuff buttons are those of a civil police tunic...not military. Seems to be a tricked out police "field tunic", ie; without brown cuffs and collar.

Upper pleated pockets and lower plain pockets say police tunic to me.

thanks for all of your thoughts on my piece.

but there are some things i still wondering about:

the eagle is defo a good officers quality eagle.
the collartabs are high quality chaplains tabs in purple as well.
the armband is a good one, too.

the tunic itself is a police tunic, but could it be possible that in wartime this police tunic was converted into a chaplains tunic? that would explain the extra purple cloth added on the sleeves - for a better difference between police and chaplain?

thats the only explanation i know, why should someone put original tabs and eagle on that kind of uniform ...... ?

The tabs look like mismatched infantry tabs that were dyed purple. You can see some of the dye was absorbed into the worn areas of the bullion thread. The whole set is junk.

I dont like the armband hope you can get your money back and this has not put you of collecting you learn by your mistakes have made a lot myself in the past
