    Panzer Regiment 35 Majors tunic

    Hi Guys,

I'm trying to research this tunic, unfortunately I can find no name on it.I was hoping to be able to tie it down to one man, due to the configuration of the medals.

There can't of been many Majors in Panzer Regiment 35, who were awarded the German Cross in Gold.Does anybody have a list of German Cross winners in Panzer Regiment 35 who held the rank of Major?

    Thanks Kenny

German Cross has "Link Lune=burg" scratched to reverse which I would imagine is a place rather than a name?

Nice looking tunic. There is a slight possibility that another award was on the place of the DKiG. The recepient of my medalbar was an oberst in panzer unit, and he wore a bulgarian combat badge on the right pocket. There is a chance that someone finds out also a recepient of DKiG in 35 panzer regiment of Major rank too, but it will be very dificult to make a 100% match. I have a similar problem with gebirgsjäger major (DKiG).

The first problem is knowing for sure the insignia is original to the tunic and the numbers were not added to enhance value etc. Your looks good but- Many people trying to research tunics have pieces that were put together after the War and they will lead to walls in all directions.

Lüneburg is a town in Germany near Hamburg. The surname "Link" matches four DkiG awardees but no one that rank or unit so the award does not appear to go with this tunic. There also is a chance the loops are for a Spanish Cross.

Narrowing it down to one person is very difficult. Here is a list of reported DKiG recipients for the 4th Panzer division. Officers frequently transferred from one unit to the other and the list gives the rank at the time of award meaning you need to also include lower ranks that may later have been promoted to Major (or above) later

Usually it will fit 3-4 people at this rank.

                Board

The first shoulder board pictured shows a rather irregular stitching into the shoulder seam and I would suggest a very close inspection of the insignia by a few collectors. Showing the collar tabs and breast eagle close up would be useful as well.

                  Thanks guys,

Personally I'm pretty sure the tunic has not been messed with. The owner has no interest in military history at all. Will post the collar insignia and breast eagle tomorrow , also the makers label which might help tie in the area with a potential original owner who may have lived in that area. Are we sure the word Link is a person and perhaps not maybe a place in Luneburg? Thanks for the list of German Cross recipients , I'll take a look at that.

Very nice tunic even without the name. Are those CCC loops or are they too long?

I think its interesting that everyone always assumes that loops on the right breast are automatically a DKIG, it could be several medals. I always like the look of a Turkish Star on a Field grade tunic, they do look damn good. Matt

could have been awarded before he became a major?

He earned the EKII after 1939 so it is pretty doubtful he would have a WWI Turkish service award. As I said above- the loops could be for the Spanish Cross but the DKiG is most likely.

Thanks guys, I think the medals have always been with the tunic. You can actually see where they have rubbed into the tunic cloth, matching the material of each award.I would have thought the loops above the pocket would be for a ribbon bar rather than a CCC but not 100% sure?. Here are better pictures of the other awards.
