    Waffenrock opinions perhaps?

    Howdy,

I have asked the seller to send me more photos, but what is your take based on these. Looks good so far to me. But then I could be as blind as a bat when it comes to these things.

    Thanks guys!

From what I can see of this waffenrock, it appears to be ok. You do need more photos showing more of the tunic in order to make a more thorough assessment, particularly concerning condition so you can decide if it meets your level of acceptable condition and to decide what a reasonable price would be.

    NOTE the following:

    1. The left rear sleeve image shows several moth holes.

    2. The Officer's silver aiguillette (shown in the image) would not be worn with this tunic. If there is a button under the right shoulder board, a marksmanship lanyard would have been attached at that point.

      Hi Greg -

The Rock looks fine to me - as Tim said, you'll need more pics to determine if it's in a condition you would want to add to your collection. You can always peddle the officer's aiguillete if you don't plan on adding any more tunics to your collection!

Issue piece upgraded to NCO. The lower rank pip has been moved up - I can just see the shadow in the photo. Would have originally had metal regiment numbers between the pips. The ribbon in the buttonhole is incorrect - looks like a post-war addition. Easily removed. Otherwise, it looks okay.

            Alex:

Lost Batallions has been reproducing parade tunics for a couple of years now. They are pretty easily recognized from an original but could pass as original for a new collector.

            Regards,

            Drew

Thanks for the comments guys! I found that the seller is actually in the same city as me. I'm going to give him a call and see the tunic in person. He is asking $629USD for it which I think is a pretty fair price?

Edit - damn ebay to hell. The guy had a buy it now option and someone took the tuic last night before I got the gentlmans response with his phone number

              Oh well.

Here is a link to Lost Battalions site http://www.lostbattalions.com/The price of a repro EM waffenrock with pants is $950. Since you can buy a 'real' one for that, I doubt that they are selling very many. By the way, I contacted this company a long time ago, and I remember that they were very forthcoming in telling about how to spot one of their pieces. They make this stuff for reenactors. At any rate, take a look at their site - you will be amazed at what they have to offer.

Wow! $950 is more than you would pay for a real one.

Thanks agian for the help guys. I spoke with the sller this morning and he is actually a decent fellow. He says he gets german stuff off and on and I am going to keep in touch with him.

I'm almost as gutted as you Greg - until I got to your post I was hoping that it was still available - I'm trawling the old threads looking for my 'Inf 'rock!

I have a decent one( Medical NCO) on the estand and am open to offers. Mine is soiled and has some nap wear in spots but is definately real and much less than lost battalions. What ashame they have to fake these now.
