Wondering if this cross is authentic. Here is a front view and rear with one prong broken off.

Thanks Gran Sasso. I did a forum search before posting, and my cross compared well with the posted originals, but I know these crosses are controversial so I wanted to get some opinions.

They have 4 pins; apparently yours is missing one.
Gilted shield & eagle, but very often worn off or absorbed
by the zinc base metal.
It has the usual "birds' egg" blue paint as well.
I agree that it appears to be a good one.

Very nice display; but, I would not expect anything less form an Alte Hase such as yourself! Why don't you add this picture to the Stalingrad boards and straps thread?

Found in an antique store over 15 years ago. Measurements are 33.5mm (1.320 inch) x 24.9mm (.967 inch) with a thickness of 2.15mm (.085 inch). These measurements are rough as the ends have a radius and thickness varies a little. The cross is magnetic. daniel tarr817j

Mark, your device looks period to me. The details are correct and the paint is the correct shade of blue.

daniel, I don't know how to post side by side comparisons, but based on what I see your device looks very similar to mine.

This is one I have that is painted a darker blue. It is magnetic and made of a steel or a similar metal. The gold and odd blue color seen on the back is gilt and blue paint, the base metal of the cross is dull grey. They must have been painted and stacked before the prongs were applied. The color of the base metal is best seen looking at the raised borders and lower area on the arm of the cross in the first image to the right of the eagle. This came with a large lot of items indirectly from an 8th Airforce vet.

I think this also is original but I know others do not like it. The details are very similar to what Mark posted.
