    Collar tab advice

    Greetings
Would these tabs be suitable on a reed green HBT drill tunic?
    http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Heer/Photos/H027472.html
If so what shoulder boards would I use? I am a bit confused. EM Infantry but what about branches. I see boards for signals, motorcycle corp, mechanized infantry etc etc. I am more of a medals guy. This is a restoration project for me.
I see also see pointy ones (early type) and rounded. The mouse grey style with white piping seem hard to find.
    Thanks

No, these are better suited for a early-mid war wool tunic.

My tunic has four pockets - non pleated. Belt support holes and slit sleaves.
It only has breast eagle. It's a restoration project and I am trying to be as authentic as possible

I agree it happened but do not think that would be a good restoration for his project and is very unusual to see as an upgrade. The second choice is much better.

                    Hello,

In my humble opinion I would use an M40 Grey on field grey enlisted man's breast eagle and the later grey on mouse grey collar tabs. Late war field grey boards with whatever piping to denote branch. This would be typical standard insignia. Below I have posted examples for infantry and Jaeger.

                      Thanks
So it would be ok to use say signals piping or mechanized or smoke troop with the mouse grey on grey litzen?
Also, i am having a hard time finding original litzen. I have found some cut off (and part of the jacket collar included) for sale. Would it be advisable to buy these and remove the litzen and sew on my tunic? I should have stuck to medals lol. I also have a couple screwback Iron crosses. Would it make sense to place one on a HBT drill tunic like the picture? I know my tunic will be restored but I am going for accuracy and all pre 1945 items.

                        Hello Golheim,

The grey on mouse grey collar tabs do not show branch of service. They are ornamental. Any color of piped board can be used with them.

Mouse grey tabs are available but you will need to do a little looking around. You need to purchase a pair of them at the same time. I do not recommend that you remove one from a cut off collar piece.

Thanks. I think I will use enlisted man signal boards. I have seen those on HBT drill tunics.
Would second pattern general issue collar tabs with the green stripes on grey litzen be authentic?

                            Hello,

The second pattern would not be a choice for me. You tunic is dated 1944 and the second pattern tabs came out in 1939. They were superceded by the mouse grey tab in 1940. In reality the German soldier or government , from what I have read and seen, made no real differenciation between the styles of eagle, tabs and boards worn on the uniforms. Thousand of variation of insignia combinations have and were used. A typical late war 1944 HBT tunic would most likely have mouse grey tabs and a grey on field grey eagle coming out of the factory, IMO.

Thanks Fred. I appreciate the advice. If you know where those gray ones are available let me know. Would that be the breast eagle I see on a triangle base?
