I disagree, I believe during the period that piped wrappers were being produced ('35-'39) tabs were made "in house" by the uniform manufacturers and an attempt was made to maintain the proportions between the collar and tab piping. This was not always achieved as you point out due to fact that the piping was merely a flat piece of material stretched around the edge of rhombus shaped tab and the amount of tension varied thus occasionally producing disproportionate results.

The subject wrap has been altered in my view. Perhaps it was a second pattern cut down to appear like a first pattern (and dolled up with numbered straps?). It would need to be looked at "in hand". It is not an "untouched" piece imo.

Thanks to all who posted in this thread. Now for the important question to answer. Is the wrap worthy of a collection? If all components are real im considering keeping it. If not i can return it to the collector i got it from. Yellow piped wraps are very rare imo. Do you folks think the collar tabs and tk skulls are ok?

you should try to take better pics of the skulls and collar piping.

I was asked to post additional pictures to determine if the skulls and collar tabs on this wrap are original. Enclosing some more pictures now:

The presence of a hook and the actual narrow colar colar shape confirm that the colar could have been modified, as already noticed.
To clarify the "initial" pattern of this wrap, how many buttonholes are there, 4 or 7 ?

Then a hook added for colar closure is surprising.

The weave of the piping looks unfamiliar to me. I still believe this tunic has been modified postwar.

                            My two cents...

Collecting by concensus can be problematic. The pictures will never be able to tell enough info to provide a basis for a "buy" decision that you will be comfortable with later. Based on the feedback in this thread I would always doubt the purchase, no matter if the wrap was legit or not.

As for the piping in this wrap, I have seen piping just like it on accepted original wraps owned by other well known collectors. That doesn't make this one satisfactory. OSS has a fine eye for detail and may see something thay I don't.

I have another yellow piped second pattern wrap I acquired from VG. Here you can see the stitching where the piping was affixed to the collar. You can also see a different texture to the piping.

the kind of piping reminds me on that wrap:
