    Insignia ID

    Hi all,
I good friend of mine recently sent me a write up about his uncle who was in the US Navy during WWII. The write up contained a picture of this insignia that he "took off of an SS soldier who didn't need it anymore". Any ideas on what this insignia really is?
    Thanks in advance!!

It is a WW1 US Army patch for the Service of Supply. The version you have is called the Liberty Loan pattern.

Sounds like the uncle was a bit of a BS'er.

Or else he killed a Doughboy who "didn't need it any more".

          Thanks, Garth!
I know nothing about the guy and was only posting to help my buddy find out what the patch really was. He said that his uncle was fighting dementia near the end of his life so perhaps he was mixed up when his memoir was written.
This is a picture of his "bronze star" so that tells you the type we are dealing with!

That was my thought as well. It could be a very interesting story about a fight at a VFW bar......but probably just that....a story.
