Wonderful grouping! The dates line up pretty well from Unterofficer in 1937 to Hauptmann by end of war. Any sign of tresse on the collar?

No. Here one more pic of collar. That CCC in silver also came with that grouping although it dont fit the loops so i figured it does not belong there. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=743686

...but with the disbanding of Kav. Rgt-18 in August '39 would this not mean that he had been promoted from Unteroffizier der Reserve to Rittmeister by the start of the war?
K.R. 18 was basically renamed Aufkl. Abt-35 and allocated to divisional reconaisance status with Inf Div-35 for the outbreak of war. In March 1943 Squadrons 1,2,3 & 4 went to form Reiterverband Boeselager.
I think that although these slip-on KR-18 Rittmeister shoulderboards probably did belong to the original owner of the tunic, they were probably added recently in the absence of wartime ones...of course it is also possible that the cyphers were re-applied by the owner postwar, to honour the traditions of K.R. 18 which has quite a proud tradition to this day: http://www.kavallerie-regiment18.de/menue.html.
Maybe someone else can explain the 'Reserve' status as indicated on the tailor's label and how it could have affected his mobilisation and/or insignia.

Here is my tunic with the 35 cyphers on the shoulderboards, indicating that the owner belonged to a unit formed from KR 18...

I was thinking about that as well. Maybe the pants do not belong to the jacket. In any case it came from the same household. But as we where not there we probably never know.skalp

            Skalp,

great grouping! I wouldn't doubt that it all belonged to the same guy, and its a sweet score! I would love to get one of these light weight Kav tunics, its a branch I'm missing in my little collection. Matt

Is there a ghost of a previous breast eagle ?

              A short amount stitching too.
