    M34 Tunic

    I have posted pics of a M34 NCO tunic. I am seeking your thoughts regarding the insignia application. All stitching appears to match on the tunic, tabs and tresse.

    I am primarily interested in your comments regarding the diamond pattern on the collar tresse.

    Nice tunic, with modest wear, but very nice condition. Very minor mothing.

        The tunic was reworked at some point as the '34 model would have originally had a Feldgrau collar and this eagle did not exist in 1934. While several types of tress with enlongated diamonds existed during the war (though uncommon), this type is usually associated with the DDR.

          me agree with you Sir,tresse has very good chance to be DDR

              Thanks for the comments.

              So, what to do with a tunic like this? Removal of tresse? Gasoline and a match?

              Is it possible that it was period modified?

              I suspected the tresse was not proper and it has bothered me for months as I know this type is associated with DDR.

                Are you sure it is a m 34?. It may be the angle of the photos, but the pockets do not look pleated?

                  Yes, it is a M34. The pockets are pleated and it has the "skeleton" lining in it. It looks to be a proper M34 in all other aspects. I do agree the tresse may be DDR which is why I posted it. Impossible to tell when the collar and the eagle were applied, and I assume it could be period, but have no way of ever knowing for sure.

                  It looks great on display, but I'm not happy at all with the treese situation on it. Really takes away from an otherwise very nice tunic.

                  Also, the eagle is not sewn through the small lining strip that is behind the wreath on the breast eagle. It was nicely applied.

                    It looks like a nice tunic and the insignia is nicely applied; the fact that the collar has been updated suggests to me that tunic was likely reworked during (or before) the war. The tresse is my only worry.

                      Thanks again. This is crazy when you think of it. Seems to me that an M34 EM tunic would be worth more than an NCO....gotta wonder why this would be done.

                          Years ago NCO tunics with Ek loops etc etc would bring more cash than a plain Em tunic.

                          Many EM tunics were upgraded postwar as collectors wanted war heroes, and an NCO tunic with many loops was attractive.

                          This have now changed but the supply of EM tunics is quite low thus making them more valuable than ever.
