    Army Flatwire Breast Eagle Tropical?

    Hello,

I have had this eagle every since I was a little guy and never really posted it. I was wondering what this eagle was used for as it is a tan color but I have never seen a flatwire tropical eagle before. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated...

    Regards,
    Chris G.

Looks to be a 1st pattern flatwire waffenrock eagle that had the wool backing removed.

      Hello,

      It sure is!! :https://www.lakesidetrader.com/item.php?ID=10507

In all actuality it is a first pattern Heer Flatwire Enlisted waffenrock eagle as Glenn said. These turn upon tropical tunics as DAK Officer eagles,

I have a similar eagle. The color around the eagle is tropical tan and the background welt is gray. I have had many of the early gray flatwire eagles, but Christopher's and mine definately are tan around the eagle.

As atated nothing to do with tropical, except sometimes attached to tropical tunics post war by mistake or not....

I'm with Glenn, Fred, and Tim, these have nothing to do with tropical. Just 1st pattern eagles with the wool removed. Some just faded to a more tab color with time. Matt

There is a WIDE range of colors on these Waffenrock eagles:
                slate gray to golden tan.
As stated, the tan examples are frequently incorrectly identified as DAK/tropical.

                    Hello,

As stated by many collectors here. The first eagle posted is a first pattern waffenrock enlisted man's breast eagle. It has absolutely nothing to do with the DAK. By the time the DAK was in Africa, Sep 41, the European Heer was wearing an M40 Grey on field grey eagle on their feldbluse and officers, if they chose, were wearing a flatwire on field grey eagle. The Heer had already gone through the first 3 patterns/styles of eagles that had been issued.
