Button Hole Ribbon Question

I have a rookie question for you guys, if you don't mind.

I've yet to physically see/hold a tunic with a EK/Ostmedal ribbon in the button hole. I am just curious as to how it was actually attached? I'm assuming that it was cut to length, inserted through the hole and just sewn on each end. If anyone has a picture that would be awesome.

I'm doing my best to educate myself against the crooks in this hobby that are out to get new inexperienced guys like me.
