Interesting, since it has the same prongs as the late war eagles, skulls, jäger cap insignia etc. This Edelweiss is a first one for me.
The pieces were stamped form one piece of sheet metal to simplify the production process hence these prongs, but interestingly this piece still has a separate center piece.
Also note it has no stem, but is more like the version worn on visor caps (between the wreath and eagle).
My opinion is it's an original late war piece.

I got this with a large lot of ribbon bar devices , RAD , NSKK, Reichsbahn , and NSDAP & city cyphers...all TR items. It is non magnetic and very light , think it is aluminum but not sure . also if it was used on a visor cap what branch would have used it?

noble white
It would not fit on the front of a visor hat between the other two insignia (it's twice the size of a typical Edelweiss) but would work well on the side of a Bergmuetze. Who knows, maybe it's a prototype for a late-war "economy model" cap badge for the Bergmuetze! To be worn with the M-44 tunic only!
