    Advice needed

    Hi Guys,
Having just recently acquired a tunic, (it previously wasn't an area of interest), i find i am hooked. Can someone please advise on the following:-

    1. On a M40, 5 button enlisted man's tunic converted to officer, is it common to have the collar replaced with the earlier dark green one, or is this something that should cause me concern. It is definately a M40 and not an M36. I don't have photos of the tunic but i have seen it in the flesh and it is original and all the insignia is original.

    2. I have been offered an M40 NCO's tunic, again i am totally satisfied that the tunic and insignia is original. The only thing that concerns me is that the breast eagle has been sown on post war, the stitching comes through the lining, should this put me off or is it OK if the insignia is original.

    3. Finally, what reference books would you recommend for uniforms and insignia.

All advice and help greatly appreciated

    Thanks in advance
    Ronnie

    1. The post-production alteration of tunics to add the dark gren collar was a common practice, especially with officers & senior NCOs.

    2. Replaced breast eagles are just a fact of life. Having the originally sewn one is best, of course, but if you're gonna collect tunics, get used to it...

    3. The best single source book on Heer uniforms is the series by Jack Angolia. Not currently in print, but they are around.
