    Artillery waffenrock question

A guy who owns an antique store that I frequent just got in an artillery em
waffenrock. The breast eagle is there and looks original with of course red piping on the tunic. The shoulder boards are plain but the buttons on the boards have a 7 on them -- 7th artillery?? the tunic is in pretty good condition although I noted a little light fading on the backside of the sleves but not bad. Didn't notice any mothing.

Anyway he wants $850 for it. Is that in the ballpark? I've bought a couple of combat tunics but never one of these.

    Thanks/

The 7 should represent the company. For a very common art EM waffenrock I wouldn't go over 525 as the market is way down and you would be hard presses to see 6-650 out of it. That's just my opinion though. Matt

The number on the buttons for artillery would be the Battery which is the "company" for an artillery unit. I agree with Matt on the price. Sounds like a very basic tunic without any bells or whistles. Matt's price is pretty close if you want to resell it. If it has a unit stamp or a name sewn into it it will increase value a bit. Artillery is not one of the more sought after branches.

Thanks guys -- I knew from visors etc. that artillery is less desirable. The computer is a two edged sword. I'm sure the guy looked up tunics on dealer sites and set the price accordingly.
It's hard to sneak up on antique mall items as they are usually overpriced.

Well, at least he is close in value and does not want 10000 US for it "because it has a swastika".

Well the thing to do is give him a list of sites to see what they are asking and how little is moving. I would approach the situation with a set of 5 100 dollar bills and a twenty as cold hard cash talks and bullshxt always walks. See what he has to say as im sure he isn't in it too deep. Matt

Good advice -- This guy probably won't budge though. He has a civil police shell with 1 decal and no liner for $175 that he's had for months. He just won't lower his prices. However as he got this from a vet (so says the tag) I'm sure he isn't in deep at all. He also got in a HUGE (like 4 feet long) handmade wooden model of the USS Missouri that is cool. also a huge medel o the Memphis Belle.

I would not waste my time with it then. It is not worth $850.

I offered these guys $500 and they were pretty offended. I went in yesterday and they were holding it as it had sold for $850. That's the frustrating thing with antique malls -- it's hard to get good stuff as they usually overprice everything. Some new guy with money who has no idea will eventually buy the item so the sellers have no reason to ask reasonable prices. Every once in a while they get something about which they have no idea i and you can sneak up on it. They had a visor and some sort of helmet picked up with the jacket that I didn't even get to see as they sold for humped up prices right away. I guess the market for militaria isn't as dead as we think
