Brustschützer in WH may mean a pice of camo coat that was used at end of the war,its a simple camo item without sleeves. some photos of them can be found in Dan Peterson book abaut WH camo uniforms.
I have seen period pictures from before the war that show a sort of vest being worn that covers the chest of the uniform jacket. I think that is what is being referred to.

or a simple camouflage apron...(no hood, no sleeves), the latter kind of like a Red cross apron but in camo pattern and longer...

Alfreds translation is wrong, it has nothing to do with camo. Its simply a protector for the tunic, while doing exercises. Have seen fotos, have to search for them.
