Three fine originals. The first (white thread on light grey/green) is a first pattern standard issue army eagle, circa 1934/1935.

The middle eagle, silver flatwire on dark green, is a 'luxury' or 'fancy' version of an officer's flatwire breast eagle. I say 'luxury' because it has been sewn onto a green wool backing, to give the eagle more of a 3D appearance when sewn onto a tunic. Although a standard flatwire eagle on dark green would have been only for officers on a standard issue army tunic, regulations said that anyone (including buck privates) could wear any grade of breast eagle on their 'walking out' (or 'Sunday best') tunics. So lots of them wore officer's flatwire eagles, and even silver bullion eagles. You can see loads of this type of eagle in 1940s studio portraits, where soldiers had themselves photographed in their smartest uniforms for the folks back home.

The top eagle, silver flatwire on light grey backing, on top of a bit of fiedlgrey wool cloth, is a style mostly seen on waffenrocks (the fancy parade tunics that were seen a lot in the pre-war years). You do sometimes see them on 'walking out' tunics too. Again, it is raised up on the fieldgrey cloth to give it a chunkier, 3D appearance when sewn onto a tunic.

          All the best,

          Mark

All nice originals, the early white on gray is a nice find. Matt
