Personally, I would not make too much of the relative dates of insignia manufacture being any indication of the relative date of tunic manufacture or, visa versa. It just did not work out that way in many instances.

I agree, however it is a measure. I understand that tropical uniforms were still being worn as late as early 1944, perhaps even latter. But it is more probable, in my mind, that such a combination of uniform and insignia, if not altered some time after the war, is a good indicator that the collar tab type existed as early as 1942 particularly when combined with photographic evidence.
