    Panzergrenadier Tunic

    Hello,

I can buy this Jacket from a german dealer.
I think the awards are ok, but i don't like the Jacket.
The jacket has no markings inside
He wants 2000€ is this a good deal?

You can see this jacket in the last auction from Hermann Historica

Why would you want the jacket in the first place if you do not really like it?

With the tunic is nothing wrong, typical custom made light weight.

Whether the insignia are originally sewn I would need a better inspection. As for the TDB concerned I'm always very carefull though; very rare to find them originally mounted. Anyway; a single TDB will go for approx. 600,- Euro so you can make up the sum for the rest of the tunic + awards.

You should ask WAF member Tim Curley about the TDBs. As a previous poster stated they are very expensive in themselves. If the shoulder straps are real and not put together they would be rare in themselves, possibly from Panzergrenadier Rgt. 901 or 902. If everything comes with the tunic, it would be a question of "The sum of the parts being greater than the whole". Another big issue, if all the insignia is real, when was it applied?

I personally would never buy anything like this without a solid history. If one could find an all original tunic set up like this and the owners name was known and there were period photos etc. 2000 Euro would be a very good price for it IMO.

            Hello all,

I've looked this by Hermann Historica and think the shoulderboards are not original, they are so small.
On the left arm you can see the seam from a Gefreitenwinkel.
The complete insignia is replaced after 1945 in my eyes

            Best regards

The presence of the past Grefeiter patch is not a concern, since he is an NCO(Officer Candidate). I would almost expect to see this. I cannot speak for the other things. It is a scary tunic for me, as there is much possibility of tampering. If it is 100% period correct, then I would say that this price is a steal. This alone bothers me, as dealers know how to soak every single penny out of this stuff. I feel that they may have questions on it too.

I remember i saw this tunic on the web some years back!

As said before, the price is ok, with all the medals thats on it and thouse shoulderboards...

But i would not count on it as beeing period to that tunic, rather an assembeled one.

Thank you for your answers, but i'm not sure.
The Shoulderboards are really not original?

As Johnny put out, with out rock solid provenance I would be careful. If it were all real it would move with a phone call or two. It looks stunning but how many guys were this badges out? I would assume that it's Lilly restored and badges up to some collectors taste. At the end of the day the only person who has to be happy is the person who buys it. If it were really well worth the asking price but I would be cautious. But what do I know? Matt

Both the tank destruction badges are good and are worth 800 usd each.

                      Regards,
                      Chris G.

Chris G. is correct about the Silver TDBs. They look to be original and $800 each is about the market price today.

As several other members have mentioned, the price for the uniform seems to be a steal, and dealers don't give away their items. There are too many unanswered questions concerning this uniform.

"If it seems too good to be true, it probably is."

Uniform is a put together. If the price for it is OK divided on what you get then buy it. At least you are not overpaying. I would say if legit, the price would be certainly be much much higher

As my previous reply reflected the same thoughts regarding your first observations a side note about the pricing is in order IMO. Several reactions indicate this to be a dealer; but please bear in mind that HH is an auction house, therefore the 2000,- is the starting bid for which it obviously did not sell, it is NOT a final dealer price! All I'm saying that good deals are very possible at low prices, not that this is necessarily one of them.

I was offered this tunic earlier this year. I will see if I saved the correspondence but if I recall, I was told the tunic was direct from a private source. Of course this means very little.
