        Hi Ralph,

Unfortunately, with this particular type of patch, the fakes are pretty easy to make corectly. Thankfully, some fakes have obvious problems. Still – I would not be surprised if many of these in my collection were produced after 1945. I never pay a lot for them because of this.

With that said, I don’t see any obvious problems with yours. They are consistent with what I believe to be good patches from the period. Do take the time to do the standard burn and black-light tests on them.

I also have a patch like the one that started this thread. The design is good, with the nerve on the leaves. What stands out is that the embroidery feels like soft wool, you can even see it on the photo. I haven't encountered this feel on an other ww2 German patch...the patch posted by Juoneen doesn't seem to have this wool embroidery. I like the construction but that wooly feeling sets me off a bit, although I still have it amongst my ok patches.
Also note the back bobbin thread is purple colored, another feature that I'm not fond of.

I was wondering about this to, the purple color is my main concern, but you think it's O.K. ???? Thanks, Ralph.

              Ralph,

It appears that you have 2 nice original edelweiss' IMO. I have no problem with the purple bobbin thread. As a matter of fact I love seeing it on an edelweiss. The construction of the patches looks period as does the material and design.
