Personally I wouldn't replace the eagle in haste just yet. This may still be a period application. Regardless it's not the conventional eagle breast eagle. Irregular or not, provenance and period applied insignia is worth more in historical/monetary value than just being politically correct
It's very common that Ad hoc insignia was used. The members are intently implying that the eagle is for a waffenrock and likely a post war application for sure which i'm totally in agreement with them but by the pictures alone not simple to be for sure.
To answer your last question and in support of NZ Mark's illustration, yes that's a compatible beast eagle.
***NZ Mark, I thought you didn't collect tropical LW? I see you sneaking in that side cap there (last photo),,,,"busted!!!"

Hello,
The eagle that is on this tunic now is a first pattern continental flatwire eagle!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with this eagle as an officer upgrade. This eagle just happens to be the eagle that most "Humpers" use when then hump up a tropical enlisted tunic to a tropical officer tunic, that is why this eagle gets a bad Rap!! A more correct eagle might be a bullion officers eagle IMO.
I looked at the collar tabs again and are they piped in white or is that a gold piping. To me they look like they might be Coastal Artillery collar tabs.

Yep - You got me! I just can't turn down being given a veteran returned LW cap (1941 Berolina). I even had to buy a tunic to go with it, but don't worry - my focus is still heer pieces.
Love your set-up
Mark
