    Maker marks on cloth insignia

    Gentlemen,

I wanted to start a thread about maker marks found on cloth insignia, because there does not seem to be a lot of info available on the subject. Several authors have done amazing work identifying the marks found on metal badges, but the marks on cloth stuff remain a mystery in many cases. In an effort to shed some light on the subject, I was hoping that the knowledgeable guys here might be able to identify some of these manufacturers, and even if they remain unidentified, we can post some interesting examples here.

I will make a start with some common examples from my collection. If anyone can identify the makers, that will be most appreciated!

    All the best,

    Mark

First up is an army Funkmeister patch, with a 'CG' marking. The second patch is for Hufbeschlagpersonal, with a mark that looks like 'RHF' or 'PHF'.

Up next are an artillery radio blitz and an oatmeal coloured oberschutze pip, both marked 'MD':

Next, the easiest mark to identify (!), 'Friedrich Schiller', on a Schirrmeister patch, and 'G & H' on a waffenpersonal patch:

And finally for this evening, 'FW' ?? on a Waffenpersonal patch, and a lengthy group of letters, 'B.L.W.H./M.' on a Schirrmeister patch:

                            Michel,

That will be the hard part!! Identifying the initials.

                              Michel,

Many thanks for posting. Great examples, I had never seen a Bernhard Richter paper tag before. If only every manufacturer put their full name on their insignia!

I am sure Fred has some great examples to post too. We may have a hard time identifying the manufacturers, but at least we are getting a lot of useful pictures together!

Thiele and Steinert is a famous manufacturer of cloth insignia, and I have a heer rank chevron that carries the mark 'Th. & St.' and '1937'. It is the only marked heer chevron that I have.

                              All the best,

                              Mark
