    Großdeutschland jacket and CT

Got this in a trade and just want to make sure there is no any red flags.
I'm not a cloth collector and I just trusted the opinion of the other guy but I just want to make sure all is OK
Sorry about the poor pictures but the sun is going down here in SC

I'm just trying to figure out what the base tunic is. Maybe some others will help.

I'm thinking that it could ONLY be a conversion of an EM parade rock to officers service style.....but it is really strange that it has 7 buttons instead of eight.....maybe the lower hole was sewn closed as it would have been in the seam and easy to do leaving little trace.

The skirt was shortened and the cut off material was used for the cuffs and 4 pockets.

Really odd tunic conversion that I also think made from a EM issue waffenrock like Phil suggested. It is also unit marked to Panzerabwehr Abteilung 50 which was a unit formed in Austria in 1938.

If you can post better images of the back etc and skirt area we can confirm that it was a waffenrock.

                Hi Giorgio,
In my opinion, you are better off not accepting this tunic as part of your trade. You will have a very difficult time trying to sell/trade this in the future.
As others have mentioned, this tunic had an earlier life and has been re-worked considerably. While I think the insignia may be original, the time period when it was applied is always open for question. Unless you can get it for the value of the insignia, I would walk away.
                Thank you,
                Curtiss

                  thank you for the information.

                  Just one more question:

                  Is the cuff tittle original?

I think that the title is original in itself. I think that the tabs and boards are original to period to the tunic. The Ciphers I am not sure about....meaning if they are good or not...and no way to tell (if the are original) how long they have been on the boards....the same with the attachement of the cufftitle...BUT these questions are always in play to some extent when looking at any tunic with a title and ciphers.....

It is a shame, but for many the term "re-work" is somehow negative. I think that Johnny R used the correct term when he wrote "conversion". I think that the tunic itself is very interesting and worthy of collecting. I know that one converted like this one has been is very rare.

It comes down as always to determining if the extra insignia was applied during the period and that is almost always impossible to say 100% if it is applied well with correct sewing and thread on a tunic with little wear.

Yes, I like these too but would feel better finding not from an elite unit where you never know when the CT was applied like Phil mentioned. After collecting for almost 40 years now these unique modified issue pieces and tailor made clothing are what interests me most.

                              on both statements.

"In my opinion, you are better off not accepting this tunic as part of your trade. " As stated by another member, I would have to say that it depends on how much you are allowing for this? The tunic is original and a rare conversion. The eagle, boards and tabs seem original to the tunic. The GD mono ciphers need a better opinion than I can give so dismiss them unless you find out one way or the other. The title looks correct, so add up the sum of the tunic + title.

If you decide to remove the title and then clearly see that it has been there 65 years you can get into therapy and after about 10 years you will be ok! By the way I have seen that happen to collectors more than once!
