I guess that it could be that I have over 30 years in 3rd Reich edged weapons and have never once touched a tunic.

The answer has of course already been given; reworked overcoat in to a M36 style Army tunic.
Do a search on M36 tunic and compare (liner f.e.)

The eagle is substandardly applied also J.R. not the choiciest of tunics being reworked from a greatcoat but does look period done. Sorry you had to go through the meat grinder for help.Comment
