It's still out there guys!! I wanted to share with you my latest vet buy. I purchased this entire grouping from the daughter of a veteran in the 1st Company, 411th Infantry Regiment of the 103rd Infantry Div. All of the pictured items you see was literally pulled out of a trunk in the basement of her house. I couldn't have been more excited when I saw how much stuff there was. She still has a period photo album of the vet and his unit fighting through Germany. The daughter wanted to scan a few pics before she gave it to me. I should have it next week.
In the grouping is a little something for everyone. Cloth, medals, blades, helmet, and headgear. The EM visor is for a Gebirgsjager and is a private purchase model. I assume the etched bayonet goes with the visor. Note the green wool in the slot of the bayo along with the NCO portepee. The Police Officer's sword has a mint blade. The cross guard and scabbard throat are SS proofed. I have no idea why it has two portepees on it?? Also, note the 18 year Polizei cased medal and what looks like a Kripo warrant disk chain.
This grouping is the most complete one I have ever seen. They guy kept everything. I even have his high school diploma. The daughter did not want to keep anything. Very strange. There are numerous letters talking about the war and guard duty. He even typed a detailed list by date, stating where he was fighting. Just outstanding. He was 6'6" and the Ike jacket is really big. Note the unique DIs. There is also a lot of paper items with the grouping. The best part is Bob Hope's signature on a Reichsmark!! The vet must have got it when he attended a Bob Hope USO outing. I love it!!
All in all, an outstanding grouping and I am very fortunate to be the current care taker. Enjoy the pics and let me know if you need any close ups.
Thanks,
Mark
