Cavalry Rgt 4 weisse rock opinion.

Hi guys,

I need your opinion, please.

The weisse rock is original to me but I need your opinion about the collar tabs and shoulder straps.

Cavalry Rgt 4 = Reiter-Regiment 4 is this correct?

Would this tunic might have belonged to? :

My immediate reaction is a nice original tunic with the technically incorrect application of dress collar tabs. They may have been period applied on a personal whim.

There's no real way to determine if the shoulder boards are original to that particular tunic.

Also, not crucial but I'd expect a senior officer's tunic to display a few award/medal loops.

The collar tabs might be correct according to the book "uniforms & traditions of the german army" Vol.1 page 292.

My gut tells me it is a restored tunic. Regulations did not stipulate collar tabs for the white tunics - I have seen it done before, in pictures only, but I assume it was a rare occurance. Are the shoulder boards the T-Bar variety or are they sewn in?

No trace of awards loops

Guys these white tunics are all over the place. You will see in pics that some officers chose to wear tabs with theirs when they were not suppose to be there. It was ignored and there are two variations of these, 1 for T boards also known as the "old style" and the newer style with provisions for slip ons and I think only like 5 buttons to the front. Its odd that there are no loops but maybe he just didn't wear the tunic that much and not everyone was badged out in the TR period. Hell im skeptical of most tunics that you see with 3 or 4 sets of loops and every ribbon known to man in the button hole
Woudl need some better pics of the collar tabs to even begin to determine if they are period done. Who knows. Either way nice tunic. Matt

Dont know much about tunics but it looks as if you have a very nice silver summer uniform eagle. Hard to say for sure from the pictures but it looks like an Assmann eagle

I would not worry much about the award loops, although some officers wore awards in photos- in actual use for the most part even higher ranking Officers often did not wear many awards with these. The summer tunic is more of a work/service tunic than a dress tunic. They were worn in the summer during training and for outdoor events etc. They were an officers and higher ranking NCO jacket to be used like the Drillich for EMs. It was "Chic" to only wear an EKI by itself or with a small ribbon bar etc. Many officers did not wear any awards especially with linen tunics that would not support the weight.
