I shot Expert the entire time I was in the service but I think only once had a perfect 40, that is a very hard one to earn and keep.

The badges on Army Marksmanship lanyards were made from aluminum, zinc, and other nonferrous metals.

This particular lanyard, Grade 12, is surprisingly lacking the protective material along the back of the large, twisted cords. From the images provided, it does not appear to ever have had the protective material applied.

Tim, you are correct it never had any stitched on backing on the large cords.
