Hello all - I have created a thread for Richard.

Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group

Sad news! I never had the privilege to know Richard as I am a fairly new headgear collector, but I appreciated the great sence of humor in his posts as well as his great knowledge and experience. Respect!

Does anyone know what is happening (or going to happen) to his collection?

For the sake of his family, I hope it is not being cherry-picked....

I think for now that can wait. There are always more important things than militaria. My condolences to the family of Richard, I hope they are doing okay through the pain.

Sadly, I am sure the buzzards have started to circle. I actually wondered about that the first day I heard of Richard's passing. There are some pretty aggressive individuals in this hobby.

I was saddened by his death but also wondered the same thing about people trying to horn in and buy items. I had a friend who shot himself about 20+ years ago that had a huge amazing Imperial collection with probably 100 spiked helmets. People were calling his wife before he was even buried offering to "help" her and buy the collection for pennies on the dollar. One person wanted to buy the artillery luger he had killed himself with. Pretty sad stuff but some dealers/collectors are real bottom feeders. I am sure they have already been approached.

In his last few weeks I discussed this very subject with Richard several times and encouraged him to get with his attorney and designate a trusted individual (non-collector) to handle the disposal of his collection for the family and to also assemble a list of people within the hobby that he trusted to assist this person. Hopefully he was successful.

This should be a wake-up call to us all, particularly with the bulk of the collector base being baby-boomers and older. I don't think anybody would want the militaria vultures harassing their family while they are still trying to deal with the loss....it's an ugly prospect.

A great point, and prudent for all collectors to consider. We've all likely dealt with vultures in one form or another, and one can only imagine how much worse it might get if this responsibility falls to a loved one who has no idea of values, contacts, trusted sources, etc.

While I never had an opportunity to meet Richard, he and I exchanged several emails over the past 8 months or so. As a new collector, he spent the time to respond to my many emails and gave me helpful hints and tips on collecting in general, and to help me start into panzer wraps.

I had been hoping to meet him at the next SOS, where he was going to introduce me to some of his friends and fellow collectors of wraps to show me ''good" from ''bad" close up. It was my hope to purchase a couple "good" ones at the SOS. Alas, he was taken by illness but will be remembered by us here.

If you were close with Richard and are a fellow panzer wrap collector that he dealt with at the SOS, I would be obliged if you would PM me.

Thank you Richard for your time, patience and experience.

                            Best,
                            Scott
