A terrible loss to everyone...I will certainly miss him at the meetings as well as his immense knowledge he gave. He really always had time to explain a uniform and their workings to someone who knew nothing like me...very sad news...him and his family will certainly be in my prayers.

    Warmest Regards,
    Christopher G.

Woke up with a feeling of dread in my stomach this morning and now I'm reading this..

          I'm stunned.

Richard and I were talking about his tumor in recent emails but he joked about it so much, I really didn't realise it was so serious.

I'd like to share the last sentence he wrote me just a few weeks ago..

"Ben, the huge tumor that has apparently affected me all my life with my
uncanny ability to ferret out fake sewing. "

He knew he was on borrowed time yet was still cracking jokes and making me laugh.

          A very brave guy.

I'm really going to miss you Richard, the world is an emptier place without you.

Just got this terrible news when I got home from work tonight and a fellow collector rang me on the phone.

Richard sent me an email about his condition some time ago. It was hard to know how to reply to it. His concern was not so much for himself but for his wife and family given what lay a head.

That is the sort of guy Richard was, a guy concerned for other people, truth and justice. A guy who would go out of his way to help someone else. He asked for nothing in return. Did not matter if the chips were up or down, Richard would always come forward to try and help.

His passion for collecting was contagious. His attention to detail, second to none. WAF has not been the same without him, it never will be. The posts that he wrote are a legacy worth reading and reflecting upon.

Richard was one heck of a good bloke in more ways than one. Any Kiwi would be proud and honored to have him as a friend.

"Rest long and easy mate, you have earnt your peace the hard way"

                      Chris

It truely is a sad thing to hear. Always enjoyed his posts and as everyone pointed out he was an outstanding person. I don't think he would have wanted us to all sit around and pout about him being gone but to truly celebrate his life. Its hard to not be down when things like this happen, but as terrible as it is it is life. Let us not all be down but remember him for the great times we all had with him and in enjoying his posts and celebrate his life. I hope the SoCal collectors are there as a base of support for his family and may he rest carefree. Matt

Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.
