Hmmm...A 1st pattern post-1940 bevo cap eagle

Hi everyone,

I came across this intriguing eagle on a dealer's website, and I chuckled. It is in the colour scheme of 1940/post-1940 insignia, but the eagle itself looks like it is based on one of those 1st pattern flatwire breast eagles you find on waffenrocks. Note the gaps in the eagle's 'armpit' feathers, and the shape of the break midway along the top wing feathers. I'm sure this must be fake, but I wanted to post it as it is quite unusual.

This one's original? D'oh!!!! I was sure it was a well-produced fake. The cloth and thread looked exactly right, but the design and construction seemed wrong to me. Well, it just goes to show how much you can learn in this forum.

Does anyone have any idea of whether these were made by a German manufacturer, or one in occupied Europe (maybe France, Holland, or Belgium)?
