    Flatwire Breast eagle opinions

This came with a few other "good" cloth pieces,
but I have some doubts about this piece.
If better pics are needed, let me know...
The silver threads look dull in my pic for some reason.

    What do the experts think?

    thank you

    Greetings All,

It is a piece of Sh@t, send it to me!!!

In all reality this is a very nice 1st Pattern Panzer flatwire and very desireable.

      Hi Fred...

That's great to hear... the stitching on the back at the top of the bird
is what I was concerned about. Couldnt find an exact match in my searching
      to compare.

      thanks

        Greetings All,

A super nice piece. It is more common than the second pattern panzer flatwire, which is scarce as hens teeth, but still highly sought after. This eagle fills the void of an officers breast eagle on a panzer wrap.

            Hi,

I have to agree with the guys who have posted replies already: that's a really nice first pattern panzer flatwire. I would have suggested you sending it to me, if Fred hadn't already beaten me to it - ha ha! Actually, I have to thank both Fred and Matt (Afrikasandman), as they have given me great advice and help in the past with cloth insignia. So, in that spirit, here are pix of the reverse of two of my eagles (both purchased after they were judged 'good' here on the forum).

The first is a first pattern eagle (like yours, only for the army and in thread rather than flatwire). You will see the same kind of stitching along the top of the eagle's wings (which appears to be a set of loops of thread, forming a tunnel through which a couple of threads run).

The second eagle is a second pattern army flatwire (post 1940 for an NCO). It also features the same 'tube' of looped threads, through which two black threads run. These 'tubes' are a feature that collectors look for as a desirable sign of authenticity. I only know these things courtesy of the good folk on this forum, I'm not a major expert myself!

            All the best,

            Mark

Very nice 1st pattern panzer eagle. The other two look really good as well, all undoubted original examples.
