    Heer tunic on the estand.

Greetings gents, Just wanted to discuss this tunic for sale as a M44 style tunic.
The seller is not stating it is an M44 tunic and what I see is a cut off M43 tunic with reapplied insignia.
I bring this up for discussion as I do not want to see some newbie picking it up thinking they got an M44, it is clearly a M43 shortened with post war added insignia.

    Best Regards!

He should write, that is a dyed and redyed tunic. I donĀ“t believe that anyone could believe this is a real M44-tunic.

I am not even sure it is a period jacket, the lining reminds me of Sturm jackets. Look at the back up and sewing around the bandage pocket and seams.

Sturm indeed, someone like yourself should know better.
Its a period reworked late war jacket, ugly maybe , i don't think fashion was of the utmost importance late in the war.
and I never said or implied it was a straight out of the factory model 44

Thanks, you can think whatever you would like but to me it looks like played with crap. If you do not think the lining material looks like aged or dyed Sturm lining fabric you need to check the older postings. It is identical. That may be your images but it looks the same to me and the stitching is post factory as well.

And what does this mean anyway- "someone like yourself should know better.". Sorry your tunic has a lot of problems and it was flagged. My Mother can talk to me like that not you. Keep the discussion to the subject of the thread and focus on your tunic having issues not your frustration towards what anyone else has said regarding your "M44" please.

Just to provide fuel for the fire- if one had a trashed ratty M42 or M43 with shredded lower pockets and heavy wear but you wanted to sell it for as much as possible what would you do? That is correct for 10 points the. .. "Field made M44 tunic", some were made during the War but very very few, most were made post War and are now sold with caveats like "there was no fashion at the end of the War" and "they did what they could" etc (circle several). The tunic is very questionable, has problems and is not as described being period or field made etc.

I'm not frustrated, say whatever you like about it

The tunic is a problem as is your attitude, it may not even be a WWII period garment. If it is, to me it is a a POW piece at best or something that was a heavily damaged M42 or M43 that was altered as I said already to try and make it a "field modified jacket" to enhance value. If you bought it from a vet I would have more of a reason to consider that. As it is, I stick by what I said even though "I should know better than that".

You can try to sell it and assert for it and speak to us whatever you want but you have no evidence of what it is. I really do not care but it is not as described and that is why it was flagged. Another waste of time here, the images really speak for themselves and you post was flagged by a moderator that probably is ranked top 10 in the World for M44s. Do the math.

However it was not stated in the sale thread that it is a reworked whatever with resewn insignia etc....

My reason for starting this thread is to keep some newbie from making that impulse buy as we all have, I know I certainly have bought some impulse items I wished later (Very soon) I had not!

So do we know if it is even a period piece for sure? So far I don't even know if we have determined that much yet. Thanks to the mod for posting this for us to see and learn from. You guys are some of the best resource we have on here glad to see you do this. Let's break it down and see if we can make a decision on it.

My opinion is its horrible I don't like anything about it myself. Thats not saying that I think it's not a real period piece. I can't make that call from what I see here.

My attitude ! , sorry next time I'll put "buddy" on the end of my reply.
Well if it was made a field modified jacket (post war) to enhance value it didnt work to well , as I'm only asking $400 , if it was a factory M44 (which I didn't infer it was)' It would be worth three times as much.
Personally I would like it better before being reworked with damage to the skirt area.
Anyway I have no problem with any constructive comments as "I have no evidence of what it is" and I haven't seen any evidence to back up any comments that it is not what it is.
Yes It was flagged by a moderator, he is quite welcome to give his opinion as well.
Out of interest, I bought this tunic from Time traveller Militaria, (that's not meant as any proof that it's genuine) Buddy.

I think it is most likely an original M42 that was damaged and shortened and the insignia re applied.

The lining looks to be rayon (I think) in a charcoal grey but this could have resulted from the jacket being dyed post war (black maybe) and then perhaps bleached to try and remove the dye.

I think I know who probably owned this one at one time if Time Traveller had it.
