Looking for any Information as to regiment?

A long shot, but has anyone any Idea of the shoulderboards Regiment Number? or anything that might help to trace his unit, he was supposedly killed in 1945


From a friends grand daughter trying to trace Information on him...She wrote to the German WASt. and got only a short information that he was propably killed in January 1945 and nothing more.
Appreciate any guidance or possibilities..thanks in advance..
