    My first pipped tunic

    Hi

I will be focusing my collection to pioneer uniforms. I would like to share my first pipped tunic. The tunic is in very good shape. It has some damage at the bottom of the cuffs but does not detract. It dysplay very nicely. There are some stains on the right sleeve but does not detract while dysplayed. I am debating if I should dry clan the areas affected as it is localized. The tunic is named.

This is the last picture. As you all are thinking it is a early war tunic as was tailored in 1940.

                  I have 2 questions
                  1. Is the number 17 for a Regiment or battalion or what?
                  2. Is the name fiedler or Jiedler?

                  thanks

Very nice. I have a weakness for the piped tunics myself.

Pioneer Battalion 17 was in Würzburg.

I don't find a Fiedler as a pioneers Lt in January 1939, so he was commissioned after that, or maybe a reserve officer.

                        Great Tunic Juan

First off as one who also owns a Pioneer Tunic, I can see the attraction !! nice one

Can someone explain what a piped Tunic is, Obviously I see that it has the service piping but why are they worn etc & how are the different to a regular tunic ?

                        Again nice one Juan

Craig - the commonly called piped service tunic is actually an ornamented field blouse (Geschmückte Feldbluse). It was a semi-dress field blouse for officers and was intended for optional wear instead of the dress tunic.

                            UPDATE

I was able to find the original owner of the tunic. He was Haupmann Arno Fiedler. He was killed just weeks before tha war ended. It was sad to find out. I was not able get a better photo. I would like to thank Robert Ruzzier.

You gotta love when they're traceable, now you just need to find a matching ribbonbar.
