    Afrikakorps veteran tunic

    Hi all,

I would like to show you this private tailored tunic.
the tunic belongs to Leutnant/hauptmann Eichholz who served with regiment 104 in france and africa,he was captured there and probaly this tunic was converted when he was a pow
I,m planning to restore the tunic but that will be not easy
Buttons, thread, insignia will be no problem, but the pleated breast pockets and collar is the main problem.
What will you guys do,go to a tailor and ask to made the pockets and collar
Wait you find pockets and collar from rags,or use repro pockets and collar.
Or leave it this way and only restore what is possible insignia etc
I think its worth and this tunic deserves to give back its former glory.

    Thanks

I would leave it as it is. As it is now it is an original piece of history that was worn by a German soldier during his time as a POW. Put-together with new replacement parts, it loses its historical integrity and becomes a half-real, half-fake item. It never will be what it was, it is what it is. Restoring insignia is one thing, adding a new collar and pockets, etc., just ruins an item to me.

I have a Luftwaffe tropical tunic missing it's upper pocket flaps and I have given up trying to get replacements. Probably best to leave it as it is.

                    So true.

I would leave it alone, personally. It looks pretty good I think!

Why would you even consider altering this historical piece?
An original is not hard to find.
                        People want stuff like this.
