In fact nothing speaks against a jewish company producing uniforms for the Wehrmacht!
Times were very hard for jews during the III. Reich, no doubt, and often unforgiveable hard, but not all jews were killed or put into camps.
There were lot of jews serving in all branches of the Wehrmacht and this is well documented, so the name Wohlgemuth says nothing in this very case.

"The Germans invaded Poland on the 31 August / 1 September 1939 and using blitzkrieg tactics quickly defeated the Polish forces, before the arrival of German troops in early September 1939, many Jews fled Poznan, seeking refuge with relatives in other parts of Poland.

The Germans marched into the city on the 10 September 1939 and five days later they confiscated thousands of books that were held in the Jewish library. They forbade Jewish schools to open on the 16 September and they closed Jewish shops on the 20 September 1939.

The Jewish shops were taken over by the NSV (National Socialist Social Welfare) organisation".

      Sounds logic.

If this tunic, that looks very good and seems to be of quite high quality, was made post war, why mark it with a jewish name? That is not logic.

This subject is a "red herring" in my view. In researching an obscure manufacturer for their Pz. Pion. and GD wrappers (which was quite clever IMO), it probably did not occur to them that this might be a Jewish name (if, in fact it is). Robert Lubstein may sound like a Jewish name, but I have seen it in many fakes.

          It is not for sale.

          Steve,

Can't help but wonder as to who you got the subject wrapper from back in 03?

          Best,

Yes that question has eluded us so far. Where was it originally purchased?

It is in fact a very popular Jewish name, however its use was not just restricted to members of the Jewish faith. Many non Jews also used that name. This is a non issue since the telephone book entry established that the manufacturer did exist. Jim

Both names (Wohlgemut, Lubstein) are no typical jewish names. You might find it at jews and non jews in Germany/ former Germany. I would not focus to much on this fact in considering this wrap.

Thank you Sir,and as I suspected.

And I wonder if this British collector found his gem there as well from the same maker. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/Foru...d.php?t=314571

And just note all the fawning over it!!

More for the “Kraap” bin, IMHO.

And hence the 30% + "original" results of this poll.

Fakes need a home as well. There wouldn't be a need to make such fakes if there weren't a market for them...... And ,why bother making the ordinary wraps when you can go straight to the sexy stuff??

I watched someone buy a fake SS Officer's wrap for $5k less than an original unissued SS EM wrap (which he was going to buy until the "such a deal" wrap appeared at the show, just for him...), and he was excited at the deal he got.

It could happen to the FJ community as well. We stand in the way, however. I can easily remember when I was approached and asked to bless the fake Czech helmets as original ("just a variation" I was supposed to say) about 12 or 13 years old, and that it would be profitable to me.

There was also a similar scenario with those fake FJ splinter clip-on covers.

Some here are trying to stop the same thing from happening with these Panzer wraps, but as the poll indicates, they are having quite a tough time of it.
