    Gebirgsjager boards

I would like opinions on this set please. The boards have a grey backing for a Leutnant d. R.

You are welcome- For whatever reason reserve GJ boards are pretty uncommon. These are very nice ones.

Nice boards, but the cyphers look to be added post War. Cyphers don't match the boards in wear, in fact look almost new...

Proof of original presence of unit numbers can be easily ascertained by checking for a ghost image underneath.

Agree, except if the cyphers were added 25 years ago or even just a few years ago there could be a ghost now. This set could be replacements but am doubtful....

The higher quality prewar numbers like this can stay looking almost new even when the boards are dirty. If there are matching ghosts underneath I would say these have a good chance of being period applied examples. This is a modified issue pair for a very small officer that was in direct Vet pick-up.

Agree Yes, but on your example the numbers sit into the boards not on top of them. I tend to doubt cyphers unless there is a shadow underneath. Many boards/straps have been souped-up these days, as a large number of unused numbers were found a few years ago.

These could also be Motorized Inf boards originally.

Thanks to all for your opinions. Much appreciated I will admit I have had my own doubts about the devices over the years as well
