Swedish uniforms used by the Wh ?

Hello to all

Out of the fact that the uniforms are very close,

Did the German made any use in place of ersatz uniforms with the seized Swedish uniforms stocks ?

Sweden was neutral, nothing to be seized, supplied or used by WH.

That is a common mock up of a Wehrmact tunic. How many times have I seen a WW2 swedish tunic on a table with pebbled buttons being sold as German? Many times. Cheers Andre

With very basic WW2 knowledge, you should know what countries in Europe who was occupied..

In fact the question is not as simple as it may seem.

Throughout most of the war the Germans transited troops and materials through Sweden. They even had a supply depot based in Northern Sweden and also bought supplies and materials from the Swedes for the 20 Gebirgs armee in Finland.

I don't know if this extended to clothing but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the Germans bought cloth\clothing from the Swedes. I'd have to look through the records of the quartermaster of 20 Gebirgs Armee.

That they were trading and supplying Germany would not surprise me either but more likely raw textiles, as Simon noted, they continued trading with Germany throughout the entire War as well as the UK and other Countries.

During my many trips and excavations i've found quite a lot of things used by WH units that were manufactured in Sweden.

Do not forget that IBM sold the Germans more punch cards for their "census taking machines" through the neutral Swedish office. An illegal act during war. Sinister to think who the Germans were trying to count. All is fair in love and war gentlemen.

On the market there are hundreds or thousands of Wehrmacht uniforms made from old Swedish uniforms. Some are easy to identify - the fakers only add German buttons and insignia - but there are also some really nice reworked examples which were made for films - the well known German movie prop supplier STURM did this (before they started to produce their own repro-uniforms in far-east).
For example If you watch the film "Stalingrad" and you look closely you see that the enlisted men's uniforms are reworked swedish jackets.

Jonni did you notice that in the film Stalingrad during the scene in the courtyard where the troops assemble many of the helmets lack rivets. I think the is a postwar west german border patrol helmet that I saw for sale once. Sound right?

yes, you re right. even some main actors wearing them in the movie. they are post war german BGS helmets. as jonni stated most of the uniforms are converted swedish ww2 clothes and equipment is a mixture of postwar east and westgerman equipment. Remember the opening scene in Italy.Leutnant Witzland's platoon wears untouched eastgerman trousers suspenders...
