Repro tunic help.

Hello,
this is my first post here although I have read the forum from time to time. I bought this reproduction tunic at a gun show. I thought it was cool looking and would display well with many of my guns. My question is, I dont know what rank, division, or anything about it really. I would like to add a few medals to it as well but I wouldnt want it to look silly if the medals wouldnt fit the rank, division, ect. Anything that you can tell me about it would be greatly appreciated!!!

IMO.. it would be better to strip the insignia and go for an EM display. Would better serve the M43 and besides, I'm not a fan of the towel-like texture of the collar tabs and shoulder boards..

I agree with the last comment, make it an EM tunic if you can. If you leave it as is, it's a 2nd Lt. (officer) either Mountain or Panzer-Grenadier, (color is so bad it could pass as either). You could even say it's a Admin. officer if you wanted, but that's not very cool !!

Thanks for the replies guys. I was told that someone used this for reenacting. I bought it because I wanted something to display with my k98 and g43's. I think my photos make the material look more "towel" like than what it really is, maybe not as I dont know much about uniforms and insignia. I greatly appreicate you guys giving me some insight.

I know you already have the tunic, but if you are looking for a good quality reproduction, they can be had for under $100 at www.atthefront.com or www.hessenantique.com I personally don't like Hessen but the At The Front stuff is pretty good. As a side not, if you plan to put this on a mannequin, make sure you measure the mannequins chest first before you buy one because if your mannequin is like mine, then it will have a fairly large chest size.

Agree with the previous comment.. I don't reenact, but I am familiar with AtTheFront's stock, and it's good stuff. I'm sure this tunic will make for a great display.

The tunic shown here is a M43 repro made by Sturm.
The cheap tunics by ATF are exactly the same - also Sturm-tunics.
Hessen offers Sturm and also Antz-repros - I prefer Antz.
The best repro-tunics at the moment are the "Texled"-repros by ATF - but they are VERY expensive...

How do you know that this is Sturm? I own a sturm tunic and it has different buttons. Also, the front flap where it buttons, looks too wide. The inner liner is also a different color. I was thinking that this thing was from eBay where they sell the pre-assembled ones (they often come with all insignia, shoulderboards, and an EK2 ribbon.

I own a Texled tunic from ATF, however if you are looking for a display piece, I'd save an extra $300 and just buy a real tunic. The only reason I own the Texled tunic is because I'd rather not take an original tunic reenacting and risk being stoned by everyone!

The tunic posted at the start of this thread is undoubtedly a Sturm as sold by At the Front and others.

I can post photos of the inside if that would help anyone with who actually made this. As for buying an original, well I am not a collector. I would rather use that $300 towards a nice k98, p38, G43..ect. That is where my collecting is. I got this because I thought it was cool looking and would take nice photos with my guns. I bought it at a gun show (the guy had several others) for $60. Although I would never pass up a chance at getting an original if I stumbled onto one for cheap money (not likely).

I am doing reenactment for many years, and i own a lot of repro tunics from different vendors / makers.
Thie one shown here is a Sturm repro - no doubt about it.
Of course Sturm does not only make one tunic model, they make different patterns.
There are several manufacturers working for Sturm, so there are differences in the tunics too (colour of wool, buttons etc.)
And the M43 Heer tunic has a wine-red coloured lining, the SS M43 has a grey lining.
But typical for Sturm is the cut, the short buttonholes, the buttons and the overall impression.
Normally you should find a "RB-number" inside (not in the older Sturm-repros) - which is nothing but Sturm's telephonenumber.

I just checked the inside of this one and did not find any numbers or markings.
