Winter parka hood button ?

I dont think i have seen this so much.. was the button in the neck / hood area for securing a rolled up hood ? added in the field ?

IMO it wasn't. as you may see ,when you would rolled it up the hood, it would cover the loop and button.. The loop and button was used to secure the string from mittens which were tied together with a string ( like childrens mittens ) ,to prevent from loosing them.

ahh.. so its that´s how they did it.. i have always wondered where they secured the mittens
