Aguillettes. How to spot pre 1945 ones.

Hi guys a friend told me that these things cannot be spotted whether they are third reich era or bundswehr.
Any help about these 2?

Hey Jacques, maybe the only safe way is to buy a one with a tunic as a group. IF you trust the seller, of course

BW Aiguilettes did not use the ferrules, or "pifken". The East German aiguillettes have more tubular"barrels" than the TR era ones. I have seen original ferrules placed on Volksarmee aiguilettes to try to pass them off as WWII-era items. The bottom aiguillette is WWII issue. The top one may be based on the barrel, but what organization? Even doormen wore aiguillettes in the Third Reich:

Don,

The one with ferrules is an original army full-dress aiguilllette introduced in June, 1935. It was predominantly worn with the waffenrock.

May I suggest that you consider investing in Wilhelm Saris's excellent reference "Aiguillettes of the Third Reich" (Bender).

Thanks for the replies guys. Was every aguillette different according to the branch of service? For example the LW ones were different in appearance or details to those worn by Heer?

Correct. LW Aiguillettes have no ferrules, SS aiguillettes had the SS runes on the ferrules, and there were different variations and stippling to the brocade depending on the organization.

I thought to get one LW aiguillette but i can't match it with my tunic as it's not an officers one. EM didn't use aiguillettes right?

You can liven it up with a marksmanship lanyard.

Here's a Grade 5 but you can get the basic Grade 1 easily.

I have never seen a blue waffenfarbe on LW tunic before. What does it represent, a medic?
