One site lists this eagle as Army General Officer.

It is a very typical KM officer's breast eagle. It does not have a silver wreath and swastika. It is not even close to most general officer quality eagles.

If you look on the back you will see all the bullion is gold toned and sewn on with yellow thread. Silver bullion is sewn on with white thread.

Seen this before on a jacket, a very nice officers eagle!! I think they are one of the nicest variants.

It is always great to hear from the experts. Now your thread explaination. Lets say there was a second eagle with this sale that is SS officer bullion sewn on with yellow thread?
Richard how would you identify that?

Well...it could be a Sepp Dietrich piece with gold bullion....or the thread has yellowed with age and was originally white. I would have to see the piece to actully comment semi-accurately on it. The thread color is only an observation based on seeing 1000's of embroidered items, not a set rule.

You still haven't heard from an expert.

Looks KM< IMO, here is an example from my collection, which is very similar.

I really do like this site. I seldom have items to post as my collecting days are behind me but every now and then I run into a badge or cloth totally out of my area that I do wonder about. I will post the SS eagle today with the yellow thread, will be interesting to hear remarks. Thanks to all.

The thread starter. It makes it clear the differences when both are viewed together, showing my example is different in a number of areas.

                      Regards,

I have posted the SS eagle on the GMIC site for your viewing. Bond, thanks for posting both of these eagles here.

The SS eagle, not my area.

As I said before...it is yellow thread because the bullion is in gold, and it is supposed to be a Sepp Dietrich type, but it is a copy.

                              Richard:
Age is hard to fake. When you examine the SS and the Kriegs eagle under 20 power they both show many of the same age characteristics on the reverse. I had a big SS cloth collection at one time and fell pretty good about the SS eagle.
I agree there are so many reproductions out there, some nearly exact in detail on the obverse. Real age however cannot be successfully faked, looking inside the bullion, between the bullion rows, wear around the edges, holes where the thread came through, holes that were mistakes originally and thread withdrawn. There is so much to look at. I think there are many obverse pictures of eagles that are hard to tell original or reproduction. The devil is in the details on the reverse. Of course you know that as well as I, but the disadvantage you have is that you have to deal with computer pictures. Anyway thanks for your taking the time to review this item.
