    Friedel Geisser's Jacket....U264

    This U-Boat jacket belonged to Friedal Geisser who was a crewman on the U264 which was sunk by depth charges on February 19, 1944 in the North Atlantic by the British Sloops HMS Woodpecker and HMS Sterling.

    All 52 members of the crew survived and were captured by the British.

    Friedel Geisser was held in captivity as a POW and released in 1947.

    U264 was launched on April 2, 1942 and commisioned on May 22, 1942.

    Oblt. Hartwig Looks (later Kplit.) was the commander for its entire carrer.

    U264 operated with three Wolfpacks during its career:

    "Rochen".....16 Feb, 1943---25 Feb, 1943
    "Specht".....27 Apr, 1943---4 May, 1943
    "Fink"..... 4 May, 1943---6 May, 1943

    The U264 hit three (3) Ships during the War:

    17 Nov, 1942.....6,696 Ton Grecian Vessel
    5 May, 1943.......4,586 Ton British Vessel
    5 May, 1943.......5,561 Ton US Vessel

                        Very nice and IMO rare example. This is maybe the first one that I have seen in the material with the turn down collar. There is a photo of an SS-officer (Knittle I believe...forgive the spelling) with KG Pieper in the "Bulge" with the same style....I am not 100% if they were made with these or modified....but yours looks factory and is certainly period.....

                            I did not catch it at first, but the collar seems to have several rows of stitch holes (no stitching) both underneath and on top at least one......and along the bottom edge......I'm now thinking that it may be period added....and very well done......but maybe not a feature that was factory to the jacket.

                            It's almost like some of these may have been modified by the KM for some purpose....I don't know.
